What is a Quick Response Code?

A Quick Response Code (QR code) is a two-dimensional matrix barcode that encodes data — usually a URL — in a pattern a camera can decode. It is an established, openly used technology. This ecosystem did not invent it and claims no ownership of it.

What is QR Protocol?

QR Protocol is the rules, standards and governance department of the QR system. It determines what governed operations are permitted to do after a scan. Protocol does not register, does not certify and does not hold the operational record — it governs the applicable rules.

Registered QR Code

From QR code to registered QR code

The optical symbol does not change. A QR code and a registered QR code can be visually identical. The distinction is infrastructural: a registered QR code carries an issued registration, an operational record held in the Codex, and applicable Protocol rules that govern what the scan is permitted to do.

Unregistered QR code

A symbol that resolves

  • Encodes a destination and resolves to it.
  • No issued identity, no owner of record.
  • No authorization state, no lifecycle state.
  • No validation performed before execution.
  • No record of the scan event, no audit trail.
  • Cannot be revoked, expired or reassigned by authority.

Registered QR code

An identity under governance

  • Registration issued and attributable to a responsible party.
  • Operational record and dossier held in the Codex.
  • Authorization state evaluated before execution.
  • Routing determined by applicable Protocol rules.
  • Scan events recorded for audit and telemetry.
  • Lifecycle controlled: active, suspended, expired, revoked.

What registration adds

Identity

The code stops being anonymous. Registration binds the QR identity to an issued record and a responsible party.

Authorization

Before anything executes, the system evaluates whether the action is permitted for that identity in its current state.

Validation

Conditions attached to the identity — status, scope, constraints — are checked against the scan event.

Routing

Resolution is governed. Where a scan is permitted to land is a Protocol decision, not a property of the symbol.

Lifecycle

A registered identity can be suspended, expired, reassigned or revoked without reprinting the symbol.

Accountability

Scan events and outcomes are recorded, producing an auditable operational history in the Codex.

  • QR Registered issues the registered result and is reachable only through QR Certified.
  • QRCodex is the operational artery — it logs, records, organizes, manages and facilitates system activity throughout.
  • The domains function individually in their defined roles, but they do not individually constitute the system. The system exists through their coordinated relationship.

Protocol operates with the Codex.

QRCodex maintains the authoritative operational record and dossier. QRProtocol governs the applicable rules controlling operation around those records. No second registry is required or authorized.
